For those who don’t know, back in 2006, Volkswagen Phaeton failed to meet sales goals and as a result it was pulled out from the U.S. market.

Now, it appears that the German manufacturer wants to try again to take on the U.S. market with the new 2011 Phaeton, a redesigned version of their flagship sedan which was revealed at the Beijing Auto Show. Apparently, this move is part of Volkswagen plan to become world’s largest automaker, by 2018. “We have our eyes firmly set on the U.S. market,” said Juergen Borrmann, director of Volkswagen’s plant in Dresden, Germany. The redesigned version of the Phaeton brings a new rear and front sections, an upgraded interior as well as a wider selection of engines. United States is a most market for high-end sedans and it seems that it is the perfect solution for Volkswagen if it wants to credibly expand its U.S. presence, said Willi Diez, head of the Nuertingen, Germany,-based Institute for Automobile Industry.
