Porsche unveils Boxster S Black Edition

Porsche has announced the Boxster S Black Edition to be launched this March for a price of €63,404 including VAT and country-specific equipment. This follows last week's announcement of the 911 Black Edition. Production will be limited to 987 units - same number as its internal platform code - and will be defined by a substantially larger range of standard equipment and exclusive special options.

As the name suggests black is everywhere covering areas normally not seen in this shade. For the exterior rear side air intake grilles are painted in black as well as the twin exhaust pipes. The rear lid nameplate is black while Black Edition badges are embossed on the sides of the fabric folding top. The wheels used are the special ten-spoke design from the Boxster Spyder but of course painted black. Tire sizes are 235/35 ZR 19 front and 265/35 ZR 19 rear.

For the interior, the roll-over bars are painted in black in addition to trim strips on the dashboard, shift lever and instrument cluster dials. Partial leather seats get an embossed Porsche emblem in the headrest while "Black Edition" branding is found on the stainless steel sill plates and a glove box plaque indicating the production number.

The Boxster S Black Edition is also loaded with the optional "Comfort", "Infotainment", and "Design" equipment packages as standard. They include a wind deflector, anti-dazzle interior and exterior mirrors with integrated rain sensor, cruise control, climate control system, Porsche Communication Management (PCM) including navigation module, universal audio interface and mobile phone preparation, Sound Package Plus, Bi-Xenon lights with dynamic cornering lights and LED daytime running lights. The only optional items are the Porsche Ceramic Composite Brakes (PCCB), Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM), adaptive sports seats with memory function and full leather seats.

Under the hood the mid-engined 3.4-liter six-cylinder gets an additional 10 PS (10 bhp / 7.3 kW) to 320 PS (316 bhp / 235 kW) and toruqe is also increased by 10 Nm (7.4 lb-ft) to 370 Nm (273 lb-ft). Zero to 100 km/h (62 mph) arrives in 5.2 seconds, a tenth of a second faster than the Boxster S. Top peed is increased by 2 km/h (1.2 mph) at 276 km/h (171.5 mph). Fuel consumption remains the same as the standard Boxster S at 9.8L/100 km (28.82 mpg imp).

Perhaps we could see the limited edition package made available for the Cayman, Cayenne and Panamera as well?
