580-hp and 0 to 62 mph in 4.5 seconds – there’s nothing not to like on the Audi RS6, besides the fact that we want a new one. If Dutch paper De Telegraaf is to be believed we might just get our wish next year.

According to a report by De Telegraaf, Audi is currently working on a new RS6 for a 2012 debut as a 2013 model year. That is well ahead of the usual schedule for the introduction of Audi RS variants. The new-generation Audi A6 just made its debut at the 2011 Detroit Auto Show but Audi wants to bring the new RS6 to the market as soon as possible to compete against the new BMW M5, which will debut next month and will go on sale later this year.

So what’s going to be under the hood? We’re not sure yet but rumor has it that Audi will drop the 5.2L V10 for a 4.0L twin-turbo V8 making close to 600-hp.

We’ll have to wait and see.
