After a long few months of back and forth rumors and prototypes, the leadership of the Volkswagen group have finally given the go-ahead to the final production of the three mid-engined roadster. All three are said to be available in 2013-2014. They will all use the same (MQB "Modular Querbaukasten") platform mid-engine and rear wheel drive, but will each use different styling for obvious reasons.

Volkswagen will have a style inspired by Bluesport, Audi will be more along the lines of the R4 or e-tron Spyder concepts, and Porsche will shoot for a baby Boxster or 550 Spyder look. Each will then use exclusive interior, with materials more or less refined to reflect the purchase price.

Volkswagen will target the Mazda MX-5 market offering around 23,000€. Audi will try to occupy the same niche market as the BMW Z3 pricing theirs close to 28,500€. While Porsche will place theirs below the Boxster, for about 36,700€.

The engine range will comprise the 1.4 TSI 170 hp, the 2.0 TFSI and updated with power ratings from 235-285 hp and five-cylinder 2.5 TFSI which is rumored to be more powerful than today's version, which has 350 hp. Also, there are talks of the 2.0 TDI Twin Turbo.

Until we see what the styling will be from all three brands, it's great news to know they are confimred and on the way.
