New VW Phaeton coming in three years

A third generation Phaeton has been given the green light for production. Development and testing has just began as we can expect the new car in three years.

CEO of Volkswagen Martin Winterkorn will retire soon and wants this Phaeton to be his last legacy. Offering high level of luxury, craftsmanship, and quality details similar to the likes of Mercedes has been a tough sell with a VW badge. However, this time around they are setting their sights against the buyer who find those high priced luxuries too over the top. This new Phaeton will get keep things simple, but with an eye for extreme detail.

Keeping the car light weight with aluminum will be key. The powerplant will replace the W12 with a smaller turbocharged engine for efficiency with start/stop technology.
