Audi has offically revealed that the upcoming R8 e-tron has lapped the nürburgring in only 8mins 9sec, which is only 5 seconds slower than the R8 V8 model. This new lap time is a world record for an electric driven production car. With 376 horsepower and 604 pound-feet of torque, 0-100 kph (0-62mph) only takes 4.6 seconds.

It will debut this September at the Paris motor show. Audi was quoted saying “Don’t let the styling fool you. The construction, drivetrain and chassis have been completely altered. It is essentially an all new car from the ground up"

It should come as no surprise that Audi won Le Mans following last years success and win. This marks the 11th win from the last 13 years. The R18 e-tron diesel-hybrid took the first two spots, while the R18 e-tron diesel non-hybrid finished with the third and fifth positions. Audi's strong presence was a force few could match as they swept the podium with 1,2,3, and 5th finishes.

Rumor: Volkswagen Mk7 Golf Sedan?

A new rumor hitting the press says Volkswagen could be preparing the first ever Golf sedan. This new 5-door model will slot just above the Jetta and below the Passat CC. If this new Golf-Sedan materializes, it will ride on the MQB platform and share the same power plants of Jetta/Golf. A new sedan model doesn't really make sense for Europe, but it could prove big numbers in North America which is VW's largest market for sedans. A possible 2014-2015 release date is being talked about, which means we should see test mules soon if this gets the green light. The rendering above shows a sedan with Cross Coupé concept styling.

Audi Q2 latest rendering and intel

The fact that Audi is building a even smaller SUV should be no surprise by now. The new Q2 will ride on the new MQB platform that the A3, new Golf, and Q3 all share. Design will take heavy inspiration from the 2010 Quattro concept especially in the front and rear. It will be available in both 3 and 5-door version, and rumored to be unveiled this September and possibly go on sale as early as 2015. Direct competition will be the Mini Countryman and Nissan Juke. Also in true Audi fashion, an "S" version will come later with 2.0L Turbo producing 225hp and AWD.

Latest Intel: Volkswagen Mk7 GTI and Golf R/RS

A recent report is hitting the news today following the Mk7 spy video release.
Several sources are stating that the next Volkswagen Golf GTI will be coming with 260 horsepower from the 2.0L turbo four-cylinder. Any VW fan will tell you that an APR or Revo flash of the ECU can bring power up to that level. The big question is not how, but why Volkswagen could be making such a huge jump in power when the typical bump between models has been modest around 20hp. If this is true, it does place the next "R" above 300hp and still keep open the possibility of a 340-370hp Golf RS materializing.

Volkswagen has already confirmed that the GTI will use an aluminum structure roof and floor to save weight. The Mk7 will also have a new "VAQ" (electronically-controlled front differential lock) that will give the car “more agile steering behavior”. The system has already proven it's 8 seconds faster around the Nürburgring than the Mk6.

We have also heard that the next "R" version Golf will focus on light-weight with a carbon fiber roof and possibly hood/hatch. The aluminum treatment on the GTI is expected to carry over on the "R" as well.
