2015 Audi R8 New Rendering

Here is the latest artist illustration of the next R8. Taking cues once again from the Nanuk concept with other elements we see the split side blades, sleek front grill, LED headlights, and e-Tron/LMS style vented hood. However the exterior shapes up to be, it is believed that performance is built similar to the Lamborghini Gallardo. The new R8 will begin production in mid-2014 at the new Böllinger Höfe facility.

Video: Audi's Driving Force

Recently some claimed Porsche inside information has leaked online (on jalopnik) from a dealer meeting. It's unclear if the intel is real or not, so take the upcoming information with a grain of salt.

First, the 911 Targa and Targa S will bring back the fishbowl rear window and removable hard top (nothing new here), but it appears that removable hard top will be fully automatic and folds out of the way with the touch of a button. The new Targa will debut in January 2014 at the Detroit Motor Show.
Second, the Macan will debut late November 2013 at the Los Angeles Motor Show (render shown). The Macan S is said to be powered by a 3.0L V6, and the Macan Turbo with a 3.6L V6 Turbo (no mention of the rumored 4-cylinder base model, or top end engine/model).
Lastly, Coming in 2014 for the Cayman and Boxster is the GTS model (current Boxster/Cayman shown). It will have 15 more horsepower, a sporty exterior body kit, and special interior. It will be revealed in April 2014 at the Beijing Motor Show.

Volkswagen Shows a Ducati-powered XL1 Sport

Previously dubbed the XR1, VW was believed to be preparing a sport based XL1.
Now, Ferdinand Piech has revealed unofficially (during a speech at University of Vienna) that Volkswagen is creating a Ducati-powered XL1 known as the XL Sport. Shown on a slide during the presentation, the XL Sport features an aggressive body kit with vented hood and extended fenders.
The 1200cc (1.2L) two-cylinder Ducati engine produces 190hp and 91 lb-ft of torque, while the curb weight of the model is less than 795 kg (1752 lbs).
There is no word if we will ever see it even in concept form, but chances are promising as Volkswagen appears to be moving ahead in the project.

The Return of the Volkswagen VR6?

We originally reported back in May 2013 that VW was considering a VR6 return (read that story HERE), now however that idea is gaining speed.
A new report has surfaced that Volkswagen is preparing a new small displacement VR6. With the recent news that VW is transforming all their engines to forced induction, this new VR6 would be turbo or twin-turbo charged powerplant with a displacement around 3.0L
The project is being headed by VW's new head of engine development Fritz Eichler who previously was in charge at AMG.
It's believed that power would be anywhere from 350-400hp, and could be used in the Passat, Passat CC, new SUV/CUV, next gen Scirocco, and rumored Golf RS.
Volkswagen first showed this VR6 at Wörthersee in the Design Vision GTI concept.

Porsche 911 Hybrid coming in 2018

Porsche has confirmed via R&D chief Wolfgang Hatz that they are building a Hybrid 911.
With all the recent hybrid technology success, they are currently developing a similar formula for the 911 that will reach production on the next-generation model in 2018. The 991 was not intended for a Hybrid variation, and therein lies the challenge. With not a lot of extra space, engineers are faced with the task of squeezing in the flywheel technology and heavy batteries. They key is to keep the 2+2 layout and proportions as much as possible for production.
It is believed that the all in one unit (electric motor & PDK) currently being developed will be used. Its size just happens to fit into the 911 chassis even with both air and liquid cooling. It will produce more horsepower than currently, and be lighter in weight. There is even rumor of a wireless charging system that would work with proximity sensors placed in the garage.
